Former Intel Engineers Found New Startup AheadComputing

Four experienced engineers leaving Intel’s Advanced Architecture Development Group (AADG) in Portland, Oregon, have formed a new venture called AheadComputing Inc. focused on developing RISC-V core intellectual property . The company aims to bring an innovative perspective to the fiercely competitive semiconductor industry.

AheadComputing was founded in July 2024 and launched its website shortly before Intel announced plans to lay off approximately 15,000 people . These layoffs were a major downsizing move that affected 15% of Intel’s total workforce.

Microprocessor Experience and RISC-V Vision

AheadComputing’s founding team has over 80 years of combined experience in microprocessor design. The company is currently in the early stages of exploring market opportunities, investor relations , and technical feasibility of its solutions. However, a financing strategy has not yet been detailed.

While the RISC-V architecture draws attention as an open source and customizable processor platform, the new initiative of these experts who left Intel aims to become a major player in the RISC-V ecosystem.

The company was founded by four senior engineers who had worked at Intel for many years:

Debbie Marr (CEO) : She worked at Intel for 33 years and was the principal architect of the Advanced Architecture Development Group.

Jonathan Pearce : He worked at Intel for 22 years , serving as a chief processor engineer and architect.

Srikanth Srinivasan : He was an experienced architect who led the front-end and back-end CPU teams at AADG.

Mark Dechene : He worked at Intel for 16 years , leading the memory execution architecture team as a principal engineer and CPU architect.

The knowledge and industry experience of this team could make AheadComputing a strong player in the RISC-V market. The company is expected to offer innovative solutions, particularly in the areas of efficiency, performance and open source architectures .

AheadComputing is seen as a notable example among the post-Intel RISC-V initiatives, although it is a matter of curiosity how it will proceed in terms of investor support , product development process and strategic partnerships in the coming period.
